Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS): M-DCPS is a significant partner with the Miami-Dade Urban Debate League.  In addition to the logistical and organizational support that it provides, M-DCPS works closely with the MDUDL to enroll programming for middle and high inner-city school students.

On March 17, 2016, Miami-Dade County Public Schools awarded the Miami-Dade Urban Debate League as the Dade Exemplary Partner in the category of civic/non-profit organizations, for the 2015-2016 School Year. The MDUDL was nominated by a volunteer debate judge who experienced firsthand the potential and impact of our program to urban students, at the Martin Luther King Classic Debate Tournament in January of 2016.

College Partners:  All major universities are involved. The University of Miami (UM), Florida International University (FIU), and Miami-Dade College (MDC) have committed to hosting monthly debate tournaments on their campuses and have recruited judges for each tournament to build a community of individuals who can provide meaningful feedback to the students participating.

Hosting debate tournaments on college campuses encourages students to graduate from high school and enroll in college and allows students to develop strong mentorships with faculty members. Our educational institution partners have committed to recruiting students from the MDUDL to pursue undergraduate degrees. There are representatives from each school serving as BOD members, our vision is to allocate funding to our partner colleges for scholarships for our students effectively providing access to education to the league’s participants.

Supporters: In addition to individual contributions, the Miami-Dade Urban Debate League has received substantial financial support from The Citi Foundation, Carnival Corporation, NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, Greenberg Traurig, LLP, Holland & Knight LLP, Akerman LLP, Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP, Broad & Cassel LLP, The Arthur N. Rupe Foundation, Commissioner Sally Heyman, Commissioner Dennis C. Moss, School Board Member Dr. Martin Karp, The National Association for Urban Debate Leagues, and the National Speech and Debate Association.
